What About The Future

Where I will be in 5 to 10 years....

In response to where I want to be in 5 or 10 years as far as my career options go I am not entirly sure, but I do have a basic idea. I have always had a passion for science and hospitality, but I do not see myself waiting tables for the rest of my life. I have always had the inspiration to become a Executive Chef, even though the hours and the stress that comes with the job are pressuring me to change my decision. Eventually I would love to own my own resturant aspiring to an Italian cuisine, but I know that this dream is more than 5 to 10 years into the future.  In 5 years I desire to acheive further tertiary studies at either University or TAFE and be living alone or with a friend to gather some independance. I would also like to be an experienced traveller in the future, because the ability to go to another country and experience the different cultures and enviroments, would be fantastic, not to mention inspiring. I think that I can relate to Vincent in the sense that I would to like to achieve more than I am exprected to and use my abilities nad skills to their fullest potential. If i can achieve all this in the next 5 to 10 years I think I will be very well off in my life and i can't wait to experience my future.

GATTACA......

As you might of guessed this term at schoolm we are studying the movie Gattaca. So here are my answers to some questions to think about.......

1. Predict what might happen if we chose a perfect society for our children. What are the advantages and disadvantages?

If we chose to have a perfect society for our children I predict that our world will have lost all its individuality and everyone would simply be a clone of each other. I think that there will be no goals for us to asprie to and nothing impossible to acheive, making our existance mechanical and orderly to a point of complete boredom. The advantages of having perfect people in a perfect society is that we can eradicate most human defects eg. diseases and deformities, giving our children a better chance is life and the key to living to their fullest potential.  But the disadvanages are more costly. We run the risk of becmoming too perfect, with absolutly no flaws which gives us no gaols to acheive in our lives and not vary between our peers. Being the perfect person makes you to similar to the next perfect person, denying personality and individuality, which could potentially lead to our downfall.

2. in order to understand what perfection is, do we also need to maintain imperfection, so that we are not all the same?

We never classify a person as being perfect unless we have something imperfect to compare them with. When we call something perfect we refer it to being better than the rest, the ultimate top -dog, but we don't often think about how we come to this conclusion. We do this by comparing the perfect thing to something that is lesser than it, providing us with a contrast between the two things. We must maintain imperfection in our soceity because imperfection means difference and individuality. We can't all be perfect and it is this fact that makes us each individuals. We need imperfection as a comparison and to make as unique and it is clear to say that imperfection is a major key to a diverse and muliticultural society.
